fishing IN STEHEKIN

Fishing on Lake Chelan happens year 'round with species ranging from Trout and Ling Cod to Silvers and Chinook Salmon. The mountain lakes around the upper valley open on or near April 25 and remain productive through the end of October. The Stehekin River opens for catch and release March 1 - June 30, with the regular season opening July 1 - October 31 (dates are approximate, please check fishing regulations). There are 57 different creeks that feed Lake Chelan and numerous high mountain lakes. For more complete information please consult your WA State Fishing Guide, or visit the Store in Stehekin.

In the 250 square miles of the Stehekin watershed, there are over 150 miles of trails and many mountain lakes teeming with mostly native trout. The beauty of having such a large area to fish in such a remote region of the state, is that you may never see another fisherman your entire trip. Most of the numerous mountain lakes hold nice cutthroat trout. Coon Lake can be accessed several ways by an easy 1.2 mile hike. Cutthroat 10 - 20 inches take flies and lure easily.

WARNING: In some of the area lakes and streams the fishing is so good, you may have to hide behind a tree to bait your pole!
