What North Cascades Lodge Is Doing for Earth Day and Every Day
The North Cascades Lodge at Stehekin has taken significant steps to make sure that its operations align with the principles of sustainability. Our commitment to protecting the environment extends far beyond Earth Day, creating eco-friendly practices that reduce our carbon footprint year-round.
- Eliminated Single-Use Plastics – We have fully eliminated single-use plastic and polystyrene products, including beverage containers, food containers, straws, cups, cutlery, and bags.
- Comprehensive Recycling Programs – We recycle materials such as batteries, aluminum, lead, building materials (wood, asphalt), food scraps (repurposed by local animal growers), green waste, electronics, glass, lamps, and paper. These efforts massively reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.
- Water Conservation – To reduce water usage, we’re converting to low-flow toilets across guest rooms and employee housing. Additionally, all showers are now equipped with low-flow showerheads, minimizing water consumption while maintaining a comfortable experience for our guests.
